Thinking Out Side The Box with Your Job Hunt

With the competition being so fierce with job hunting, we need to start thinking outside of the box in how we market ourselves.  Like most posting to the major and not so major job boards, joining networking communities, and completing countless online job applications, may not have been getting you the results you like.  We can take a few tips from those Internet Marketers and Online Business owners and apply them to what we currently are doing to land that next job.

The Internet Marketer and the Job Seeker do have some things in common, both spend hours online posting to advertise,  products/services, skills/qualifications (respectively); are highly competitive because of the mere numbers just to name a few.

We can find many differences but the ones that truly stand out are:

Internet Marketers earn commissions by driving traffic to company websites, while the Job seeker posts their resume with the hope that a hiring company or recruiter selects their resume from a pool of thousands.

The time involved is another major difference:

o   Job seeker has many phases to go through, getting their resume selected is just step one, then you have the in-person or phone screen with the HR/Recruiter, next will be an interview with the Hiring Manager who will be making the decision,  by now several days or weeks have passed, (wow, you made it this far) now you have the second interview to meet the Department Head and the Hiring Manager again this time to discuss compensation and benefits (another two days gone and yet still no job) – You finally get the job offer and you look at the time and 3 to 4 months has passed.

o   The Internet Marketer only has to worry about driving traffic to the company’s website, the company does the selling, to take an educated guess, and it can take mere zero to 72 hours it depends solely on the drive of the marketer.

Then you have the cost/benefit in performing the daily tasks:

o   For the Internet Marketer, the cost to perform what is required varies, depending upon the methods in which they choose to advertise, say that they set a budget ranging from $0 to $100 per week or $400 per month.  Let’s say that an average Internet Marketer can generate $650 per week in sales and their commissions total 37% their monthly net income would be $562 ([650 *4] *0.37 = $962 - $400 exp)

o   The Job Seeker, require essential tools (resumes, cover letters, postal costs, funds to get to interviews, networking costs, phone charges etc) for the purpose of this article, say it costs about $175 per week or $700 per month, and it took 4 months to get hired for a total expense of $2800.  Also, assuming the job paid $400 per week or $1600 a month it would take about 1month 3 weeks to recoup expenses.

So what are some of the things that the Internet Marketers are doing that the Job Hunter can adopt to produce faster and more cost effective results?  Here are a few things for you to consider:

(1) Internet Marketers’ usually have a website that they send targeted traffic to, as a Job Hunter, you can create your own “webpage resume” and send employers (your targeted traffic) to your webpage this way the job seeker is sure that their resume is being seen.

(2) In your signature line on your cover letter, thank you letters, blog posts, emails, you can post your website URL right under your contact information.  See where I am going with this, the possibilities are only limited by your imagination.  You probably did not think that employers do online searchers for possible employees outside of the job boards.  Internet marketers have an arsenal of creative and innovative ways in which we can adapt to our own needs.

The issue than lies with how the job seeker can go about tapping into what is working for the seasoned Internet Marketing Professionals, in order to find out more, we have to become more familiar with the world of Internet Marketing as a whole.  Yes, research and educating oneself is always the key.  The ideas mentioned earlier were adapted from a site called Wealthy Affiliate University

WA’s website is like going to a traditional community college to obtain your AA degree in internet marketing without the student loan payment.  What you will find is an unmatched arsenal of:
